Cllr Mark Cooper's Pledges to You…

• Carry on working hard, with integrity, for all the residents of Romsey putting their interests first

• Campaign for the repair, maintenance and better funding of Romsey’s pavements and roads

• Use all his powers of persuasion to convince the Government Inspector that Test Valley is wrong to ‘Andoverise’ Romsey by allowing 1,600 new houses on Romsey’s green fields at Whitenap

• Minimise the impact of any development such as Abbotswood that does get nodded through by Andover and Test Valley Conservatives

• Not be influenced by developer donations nor offers of planning gains

• Fight to keep Romsey as a small market town and a decent place to live

• Defend Romsey’s green meadows from greedy developers

A record of action...a promise of more

Mark Cooper - A leading voice; the local choice

Mark is local…
Hampshire born and bred, Mark has lived in Romsey for 33 years. “We bought a house on the Great Woodley Estate, then off Cupernham Lane; we have lived next to The Mountbatten School since 1983”.

A family man…
Mark is married to local GP, Sue Tippett. “We have five fine sons who have all benefited from the excellent provision of local schools”.

Involved in the community…
Mark was the founding Chairman of the Community Association that built the Montfort Hall. A past Governor at The Mountbatten School, he is now a Governor at The Romsey Community School and Romsey Primary School.

Committed to Romsey Town…
Mark has been a Romsey Town and Borough Councillor since 1986 and was Romsey Town Mayor in 1991 and again in 2007. He is an Almshouse Trustee, Chairman of the Romsey Bandstand Trust and involved in many other organisations. He founded the Romsey Forum in 1994.

An experienced campaigner…
Mark was a key activist in the campaign that halted Broadlands’ huge development plans in the 1980’s. He is now campaigning to remove the threat of 1,600 houses on some of the finest landscape in Hampshire on 43 acres of high quality farmland at Whitenap.

An effective Councillor…
Mark has served on Test Valley for 23 years and was the Liberal Democrat Council Leader in the ‘90’s. His work to create ‘The Valley of the River Test Heritage Area’ protected Romsey from mass development until Conservative Test Valley later deleted the Heritage Area… opening the development floodgates at Romsey.

Romsey’s voice at the County Council…
Mark is a spokesman on the County’s Regulatory Committee and is proud to be a member of the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority.

A member of former MP Sandra Gidley's team…
Sandra Gidley says;- “Romsey is fortunate to have such an experienced Councillor."

The Council wants to grow Romsey’s housing and population by 36% by 2026! This election is your first opportunity to express your concern about the way they want to change our town.
Romsey people speak…

“I am very pleased to see the rigour with which you are pursuing this huge new development planned. Let me thank you for your efforts” Mr K.A.

“We would like to express our gratitude to you for using your influence and persuasion to expedite road repairs at the entrance to our estate”. Mr K. H.

“A note to thank you for the help and support you gave when dealing with the proposed extension”. Mr and Mrs B.

“Thank you for your many newsletters and information updates…I am filled with admiration for your efforts and your energy, though not surprised by them. A doughty reputation for causes in the public interest had long preceded this present campaign”. Mr K. W.
